Happy Friday, Friends!
One of the most frequent questions i see online is what RUO vendor to use, and i think this is the most important question to ask, that is also the entire reason and foundation the EP Community was founded on.
And more importantly how can we as consumers / researcher help drive the demand but also educate people around us on quality sourcing. That was what i wanted EP to be, a quality focused beacon in a space that, at the time, did not have one.
In my opinion the core 5 pillars of quality sourcing starts with one main foundation, and without a solid foundation - everyone knows what happens then at some point, the building comes crashing down at some point.
The foundation is US lyophilization and vialing in a standardized facility with US personnel, no corners cut. Because the RUO manufacturer maintains full operational control and you know that when your batch is ready that the all the vials from that batch is from that batch and not mixed and matched at a wholesaler distro in China, super important.
Because if you order a batch from China and test one vial, you have no way in knowing that the entire batch came from one production, most people deal with trading companies and they only have one goal, not running out of stock, so they source from multiple places and 99% of those are not GMP or follow cGMP or any sort of standards, they just set up shop and start churning out vials.
And when you control the entire batch it is equally as important with functional batch numbers on the labels and all the tests, that shows you what batch that particular compound came from, so you have full traceability back to production, many vendors just slap a batch number on but have no idea if the batch they just imported is from the same production run, all they know is they bought and got shipped that batch.
Now the other 4 core pillars are testing, and that should include:
Sterility Testing - Are there any contaminants, bacteria, mold this is a no brainer.
Endotoxin Testing - Sterility testing covers living organisms that could replicate and cause all sorts of issues we DO NOT want, but endotoxin testing covers dead bacterial fragments or more specifically lipopolysaccharides (cell debris) from Gram-negative bacteria.
Purity Testing - This is what is typically referred to as a COA (Certificate of Authenticity) and what 99% of companies operate solely based on, it is far from enough, but it is a basic necessity, like a compound “passport” that shows you that what peptide or compound is found inside and what the the chemical purity measure in %, but just because it says 99. something % does not mean that the product is sterile or endotoxin free, that is very important to note here.
Quantity Testing - This is a test that measure the net amount of the active compound inside the vial, this is very important too, because you want to know that you are getting 10mg instead of 15mg or 8mg, this is very important!
These are all criteria that i look for and part of the vetting process, there are many ways to cut corners her and ultimately you have to trust the people behind the brand too, and that is not something that just magically happens or there is any fixed recipes or standards, so that is why it takes a great deal of time.
Everyone can say: “we manufacture in the US”, but these steps need to be confirmed and verified, without that, it is just empty words.
Almost all raw peptides are synthesized and made in China, but there are thousands of manufacturers and only a handful of them operate on GMP / cGMP standards or are verified, and as a RUO vendor you almost have to fly over and verify or have it independently verified through an agent in China which is 100% possible yet only 0.01% actually care enough to do that. And there are multiple steps that happens with the raw peptide before it ends up in a vial, and those steps are crucial!
It is 10x more expensive and 100x more difficult to do this in the USA vs China, and that is why the prices of Chinese products can be so much lower! Something to think about!
US sourcing also requires knowledge, connections and INVESTMENT to the tune of 6-7 figures just to get started. If you want your own in house facility you are looking at high 7 to 8 figures minimum! That is just for equipment, then you need to hire PHD’s with the knowledge and experience and the list goes on. That is why there are only a handful of RUO vendors in the US that actually meet these criteria today.
But regardless of all that, all of these import vendors have the access to third party test for sterility and endotoxins at the same labs they already use for COA’s or purity testing and quantity, so that always makes me wonder, how come they just don’t add those tests? Is it because they already did and they failed? Is it because they are cheap or just don’t care? I don’t know, but it makes you wonder.
But even if they did that, you would still have tons on variables and unknowns that are out of your control unless you control the batches.
Just some explanations and details around the vetting process and how i look at vendors and quality assurance.

❄️ My long-term storage approach (not advice, just my system)
I’ve shared this before, but it’s worth revisiting:
🧊 2-4 × HydraPeak 32oz thermoses with peptide inserts
2-3 for freezer storage (1–3 years)
One for fridge storage (6–12 months)
Everything is labeled, rotated, and calmly managed
I use a Dymo labeler, but you can get tons of different labeling machines that work great for this. You can also use a pen and mark the sticker on the vial.
